Monday Musing?

I wanted to call this Tuesday's Tip, but I couldn't wait for Tuesday. I need to tell everyone what I'm obsessing about.

It's the Clorox Bleach Pen- http://www.clorox.com/products/clorox-bleach-pen/. Yes, I know, it's not nearly as interesting as cupcake reviews. But, let me tell you, this is like a magic invention. I think the last time I bleached any article of clothing was in the 80's. I was trying to get my jeans and possibly a denim jacket to rival Joe Elliot's in the Pour Some Sugar On Me video. It didn't work, I messed up my mom's bathroom carpet, the rips looked weird and the bleach definitely looked home-done. And not in a good way.

I had two tank tops and three thermal tops that I wear for exercise. I think I have hard water or something- I don't know what. But, three of the tops all of a sudden had these weird brown marks on them. There weren't toddler marks, as in poop, or food. And I've seen these marks before. Not in this house, in a long time, but I've seen them. I saw this bleach pen in the store and on impulse I bought it thinking I'd try it on these. Also, not to be gross, but from exercise and bad deodorant or bad armpits, I had pit stains on the thermals. I'd been told there is NO WAY to get that out. "NOT EVEN BLEACH". I'd actually tried bleach IN the water here and there over the years and whomever told me that was correct- it didn't help at all. BUT the pen...Oh the pen.

Anyone who knows me, knows when I get obsessed, I get OBSESSED. Be it jelly beans, cake, watermelon sour candy, or bleach, it becomes this whole thing. I then want to bleach everything. I actually don't really have much white clothing except the stuff I mentioned, so I went to town on that. I penned the "hard water stains" (or whatever they were). I then penned the pits. Left the clothes out for a like an hour or so while I did other laundries. Put in the washer with regular detergent and bleach detergent.

WELL. Let me tell you- the hard water stains? GONE. The pits- white as snow. I was doing a little dance in my laundry room. I wished I had more things to pen. But, I don't. So, I'm done. Until my washer messes up more shirts, but we'll just hope that doesn't happen because I need a new pen.

Happy whitening!

  1. FYI...you can use the pen on grout too. Yuppers! Check your washer with those stains...if you have a front loader you might need to clean out the area by the door OR your clothes are getting stuck when spinning. I had them too.

  2. I have an older regular top loader. And it only happened on these three shirts in six years. It came with the house so I'm not sure exactly how old it is but the spinning thing might be it. But, if it's the spinning, what to do about that? Already wash everything on "delicates" and a new washer is not in the budget right now.

  3. I don't think my other comment went through. Anyway, I had to get a new washer this weekend and it caused me nothing but drama. I research everything and all of my research only came back with everyone hating everything! A new washer was not in our budget so I opted for a pretty basic top loader. The only feature I had to have was the delay start. I like to have clothes ready for me in the morning so I can throw them in the dryer. The washer came with the house and it was only a 2006 so I opted to go back to the top loader. A guy friend of mine (who is more girl than guy) said he just got a new washer and him and his wife believe they clean better. I guess time will tell. I am glad the research drama is over. I actually just called the store from the car and talked to the woman after taking a week to add more gray hairs to my head!

  4. What is delay start? I do everything on delicate and it's done in 30 minutes. I don't want it delayed- I want to start immediately. What am I missing? I prefer the regular old top loader. Been told the front loaders are a pain and break down more because there are all those electric buttons on it so if it breaks you're screwed. They look pretty but I don't want hassle. I had to buy a dryer recently and I researched both washer and dryers. Stuck with same brand dryer I had and got a regular one.

  5. Let's take tonight...I had towels to do but didn't want to deal with waiting for them to get done so I could throw them in the dryer. I don't like my laundry to sit in the washer when it is done. Just bothers me to have them sit there all wet all night if I put them in before I go to bed. I put them in and they will start around 6AM so when I get up they will be done and I just throw them in the dryer. Same thing with the dishwasher. It's not really quiet and my kitchen is on the same floor as my family/tv room. If I want to watch something and not have to deal with the dishwasher noise I just delay it for an hour or so and it will start after I got to bed.

Yes, I was VERY disappointed with the front loader that was here. It was a GE and you would think it would be good. The dryer is old school and works fine. I am not the type to just buy a new dryer just so they match. Don't care...

  6. Our washer & dryer don't match either. What I actually found in all my researching is that many of the same brand washer and dryers don't have similar ratings. Like I had a whirlpool washer & maytag dryer. Didn't know maytag is the "lower" brand of whirlpool but they're still not the "same". The maytag dryers had better ratings but the washer of the "match" to it didn't. So if I needed a new washer I'd stick with whirlpool which had better washer ratings than the maytag.

  8. I had one of these pens... don't remember what I used it for... but I'm inspired to buy one again. And now I'm singing the "Obsession" lyrics in my head... :-)
